To get yourself ready for eating healthy and living well, you have to have snacks in the house that you aren’t going to feel guilty eating. When you are craving that chocolate fix, don’t try and ignore it, feed it a healthy chocolate energy ball. Its all about having prepared snacks to feed your hunger right, with food that is going to fill you up for longer.
Here I have shared three bites or ball recipes that are a regular in my house, loved by the kids and a great boost of energy when your peckish.
1 cup almonds
1 cup deseeded medjool dates
1/2 cup raisins
1 scoops protein powder (vanilla flavour)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
3-4 tablespoons coconut oil
Put all the ingredients into your Thermomix (or food processor) and process/grind till all ingredients are combined.
Measure out tablespoons of the mixture and roll into balls.
Refrigerate for 1/2 hour before eating your first one.
These almost have a little milo taste to them and are a great healthy little snack for the whole family. Also, a perfect boost after your workout.
Note: If you don’t have some protein powder in the cupboard, grab some. Its great in smoothies, shakes, brownies and snacks. It can help muscles recover quicker when exercising and will fill your belly up faster and for longer, stopping you from feeling the need to snack.
1 cup dried apricots
2 cups desiccated coconut
Place both ingredient into the TM bowl (or food processor).
Blend them 2-3 mins/speed 10. Keep going and going and going until it becomes sticky again, the mixture may even become a little warm from being ‘worked’.
Using a heaped teaspoon of the mixture, roll them into balls and refrigerate for 30 mins to set.
Chocolate Avocado Truffles
1 bag Enjoy Life chocolate chips
1 large ripe avocado
1 Tbsp almond milk
1/4 cup cacao powder
- Place the bag of chocolate chips into the TM bowl. Melt 90 degrees/2 mins/speed 2.
- Once the chocolate is melted, add the avocado and almond milk.
- Mix until creamy speed 5/30 secs
- Refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Roll the chocolate into balls and dip into cacao powder.
These are a rich chocolate treat, great for a special occasion. These three recipes are great to have on hand when you feel like snacking and don’t want to succumb to the sugar or fast food cravings.
