10 Delicious Paleo Christmas Gift Ideas

This time of year many people are baking or making tasty little treats to gift or share with family for the festive season. It’s such a lovely thing to receive a handmade gift, something baked with love. That is, as long as it’s not filled with processed grains and sugars.

The festive season can be hard to avoid those foods that you have chosen to remove from your diet. For many people it takes an extra effort to resist. So receiving a girt made with real food ingredients shows the extra care and effort has been put into that gift. Here I have put together 10 recipes that would make great homemade gifts. Things I’d love to receive myself.

Paleo Asian Baked Meatballs

The other day I shared my recipe for my Paleo Sweet Chilli Sauce, a great dipping sauce made with all paleo compliant ingredients. Well, here is the recipe that I served it with when I was asked along to a ‘bring-a-plate’ night with friends.

These paleo asian baked meatballs are quick and easy to make, and use common fresh ingredients in most paleo homes. The flavour is subtle and not over powering, so the kids can enjoy them too.

Paleo Sweet Chilli Sauce

Who else misses their condiments. For many it was the ease of opening a bottle of sauce and adding your favourite flavour to a meal. They have become something of a convenience in modern diets, but the idea of quality condiments is about adding extra flavour to plainer foods. I was never a big fan of sauces. I appreciate the taste of fresh foods and never really needed to add another layer. If I enjoyed them, they were usually the homemade variety. Hubby, on the other hand, really loved his sauces.

His favourite would have been sweet chilli sauce. Obviously, the bottled version is packed with a pile of sugars, preservatives, thickeners, and possibly artificial flavours or colours. When he finally joined me in making the switch to paleo, he did miss the sauces, but we came up with alternatives for most of his favourites. When I mentioned I was going to come up with a sweet chilli sauce with paleo compliant ingredients he was excited to say the least.

Paleo Lunch Box Rolls (Nut & Dairy Free)

Lunch boxes…they can be a bit of a nightmare some days. While I am always keen to make grain free alternatives for my children, they still have gluten-free rolls in their lunch box occasionally. There was only one type I would buy, and it became the only type my children would eat. It was full of seeds and looked like a multi-grain roll, but it had absolutely no flavour. It started as a convenience item, and is still just a convenience item (some days laziness).

I have wanted to find and create an alternative for a long time, but each recipe I tried or altered just didn’t cut the mustard. They were too egg’y, too dry, too soggy, had a weird taste and lets face it kids are all about taste and texture. Finally, I’ve found it though. A roll recipe to do away with the convenient gluten-free rolls I was spending a fortune on.

Paleo Waffles by Danielle Walker (Against All Grain)

Its been many years since I have eaten a waffle, and in fact until the other day, my kids had never eaten a waffle. Go figure! It’s not something that is as big here in Australia as it might be in America perhaps. I’m not sure why that is. I remember having them as a young child when we visited my nan’s, but I think they may have been the packet variety, even though she was a great baker. The last year, though, I have had a need to find myself a waffle iron and make waffles. I’m not sure if its the paleo influence, and all these yummy waffle images on Pinterest, but it was a need I had to fill.2 Continue reading
