Paleo Sweet Chilli Sauce

Who else misses their condiments. For many it was the ease of opening a bottle of sauce and adding your favourite flavour to a meal. They have become something of a convenience in modern diets, but the idea of quality condiments is about adding extra flavour to plainer foods. I was never a big fan of sauces. I appreciate the taste of fresh foods and never really needed to add another layer. If I enjoyed them, they were usually the homemade variety. Hubby, on the other hand, really loved his sauces.

His favourite would have been sweet chilli sauce. Obviously, the bottled version is packed with a pile of sugars, preservatives, thickeners, and possibly artificial flavours or colours. When he finally joined me in making the switch to paleo, he did miss the sauces, but we came up with alternatives for most of his favourites. When I mentioned I was going to come up with a sweet chilli sauce with paleo compliant ingredients he was excited to say the least.

Paleo Basil & Spinach Pesto (Dairy Free)

Food should be all about flavour! Right. One of the most flavoursome sauces to use in your cooking I believe is Pesto. You can pop it on a pizza, toss it through zucchini noodles, smear it on meat, use it as a dip and so much more. It was imperative for me early on in my Paleo journey to create a friendly version for my cooking.

Traditional recipes include parmesan cheese, obviously this was the first thing I left out. While it does add more bite, without this cheese the recipe is still delicious.

Paleo Dried Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce is a must on the Christmas table to go with those tasty turkey’s and hams. The only problem if you are trying to follow a Paleo, low carb/high fat, sugar free or diabetic style of eating those shop bought varieties have added sugar and preservatives.

Paleo Mayo – Make Your Own Mayonnaise.

There is one simple recipe that I make all the time. Its a very popular condiment that is eaten the world over and when made the old fashioned way, with real ingredients, its paleo approved. What is it…mayonnaise. Its so simple. Make sure that you make your own mayonnaise. Once you do, you will never want to buy those shop bought ones. Go on try it.

Paleo Challenge Day 1 – Condiments

Are you ready to start the challenge? Each day I will post the recipe for one meal or snack, but today I have a little lesson to start you off.

Condiments can be one of the hardest hurdles you will face when changing the way you eat. Many of the shop bought bottles and jars are full of sugars and thickeners (grain based). These are sneaky additives that are put into the sauces etc to supposedly improve  the flavours. The sad thing is that they aren’t needed.
